Are Sloths the New Cats in Fashion? — elle.com

The team at ELLE.com let out a collective squeal when we thumbed past an image from Mansur Gavriel, the cult handbag line, on Instagram: there was a sloth (!) crawling over a stack of the brand's highly coveted bucket bags. But wait! There were more! A tiny hedgehog crawling out of a fire-engine-red tote. An owl taking flight above a blush-colored backpack. "As a brand, we're inspired by the play between nature and pop—the warmth and purity of color and texture alongside clean, minimal yet vibrant formal qualities," said designers Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel, who assured us that all the animals in their spring 2015 lookbook photos are 100 percent real. "We love playful and warm emotions as well as restrained minimalism," they said. And as for the choice of the sloth (whose name, we've learned, is Amy) who made several appearances in the lookbook? "We love sloths because they are beautiful, tranquil animals. Their slow movements are incredible to watch." As self-professed cat people (well, most of us at ELLE.com, anyway), we wouldn't mind letting the sloth have a little bit of the fashion spotlight.
