Though Brooklyn has nurtured everyone from Biggie Smalls to Grizzly Bear over its storied musical history, it has been a rough year for the borough’s scrappy venues: In 2014 alone, mainstays Death By Audio, Glasslands, Body Actualized Center, and 285 Kent will all close due to rising rents and other costs issues.
