Washington, D.C.’s Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden announced today that it has tapped Stéphane Aquin, the curator of contemporary art at the Montreal Museum of Fine Art, to be its new chief curator. Aquin, who has been with the MMFA since 1998, takes the place of Kerry Brougher, who in April was hired to lead the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Museum in Los Angeles.
Aquin is the second major hire from the Hirshhorn’s new director Melissa Chiu, who was brought on in June and who hired the former Swiss Institute director Gianni Jetzer as an at-large curator based in New York.
