Sotheby’s final watch auction of 2014 concluded in New York featuring a variety of watches and clocks among its top lots. Familiar names such as Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin and Paul Newman Daytona Rolex watches mixed with rare complicated mechanical clocks for the December 10 Important Watches auction that achieved $7.2 million, with 68.5 percent sold by lot and 74.6 percent sold by value. The last auction of the year raised the company’s 2014 sales in this category to $100.1 million for the year—the highest annual total in Sotheby’s history.
