NEW YORK - Authorities in the United States have fined the international cosmetics seller Avon Products US$135 million (S$176 million) to settle a corruption probe in China after the company's Chinese unit pleaded guilty to bribery.
The global beauty supplier, known for its door-to-door and catalogue sales, bribed local officials with foreign travel and expensive trinkets such as Gucci bags and Louis Vuitton merchandise, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) said in a statement on Wednesday.
