Yasmin Ahmad (7 January 1958 – 25 July 2009) was the darling of Malaysian television and cinema, a talented film director and scriptwriter who gave us the heart-warming films Sepet (2004), Gubra (2006) and Muallaf (2008) to name a few.  Yet Yasmin is perhaps best remembered for the commercials she wrote and directed for national oil and gas company Petronas. The Petronas videos are more like short films than commercials – sometimes amusing, often nostalgic, and always moving. Yasmin’s advertisements celebrate all aspects of Malaysian life, culture and most importantly, Malaysian people.
