It’s Christmas Day, and one of my favorite Latino entrepreneurs of the year is praying for peace. But he’s praying not just for peace on earth generally, but for peace in cities specifically. And just as important — and newsworthy — he has not just been praying, but doing something about it, too.
The entrepreneur is Pastor Danny Sanchez, a White House Champion of Change, whose ministry — The City Peace Project – is not confined to any one building in San Jose where he works, but the mean streets of San Jose from which he rose. Danny, a former gang member, works to help today’s gang members break out of cradle-to-prison lifecycle and into better lives. I first wrote about Danny in 2013, after meeting him at an event catering to Silicon Valley Latino entrepreneurs. Since then, he has expanded his footprint in the Valley with the support of government, civic, and business leaders. He has emerged as social entrepreneur with a unique social mission: peace in cities = peace on earth.
