Statue of David to get new earthquake-proof base — foxnews.com

Michelangelo's David has been housed in the Galleria dell'Accademia since 1873. (AP Photo) The Italian government has announced a new project that features an earthquake-proof base for Michelangelo’s famous statue of David. Located in the Galleria dell'Accademia in Florence, David stands nearly 17 feet high and is currently mounted on a 6-ft tall base. The new earthquake-proof base, part of a project expected to cost over $248,000, will further reinforce the masterpiece, which already has weak angles due to “micro-fractures” caused by deterioration over time.
