Ice Bucket Challenge raises the bar: 500 people take wintry swim to support ALS research — mashable.com

This year will be remembered for many things, but it's impossible to look back on 2014 and not recall the #IceBucketChallenge. The movement, which benefits the neurodegenerative disorder (also known as Lou Gehrig's disease) raised more than $100 million this summer, and completely dominated social media in the process. Although the virality of the Ice Bucket Challenge has died down a bit, more than 500 people showed up on Saturday to take it to the next level. Participants took a wintry swim in Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester, Massachusetts, to support Pete Frates, the 29-year-old responsible for the challenge going viral. Frates, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2012, has since devoted his life to raising awareness for the disease.
