Cold in July director Jim Mickle will direct Legendary's upcoming project Esperanza.
Based on a book by John N. Maclean with a script by Sean O’Keefe, the story, set in Southern California, chronicles the life of firefighters battling the "perfect storm" of wildfires.
Alex Hedlund will oversee the project for Legendary.
Mickle most recently directed Cold in July, which screened at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival and the 2014 Sundance Film Festival. He previously directed the 2013 film We Are What We Are and is the creator, co-writer, EP and director of Hap and Leonard, which was recently sold to SundanceTV and is set to premiere in 2016.
