For the past three years now, I’ve been keeping a list of every movie I watch in a given year. I’m not really sure why I do it, but it’s a nice way of keeping track of which films I saw when, and it’s incredibly helpful when it comes time to put together year-end lists. While there’s no reason for anyone to be interested in my list but me, filmmaker Steven Soderbergh is a different story altogether. The writer/director/editor/camera operator unveiled a list all the things he watched and read in 2013, and now he’s done the same for 2014. It’s a fun peek into the kinds of things that a guy as talented as Soderbergh consumes, and there are a few key points of interest: he saw Gone Girl back in March (twice), he took in quite a bit of Stanley Kubrick over the year, he’s a fan of The Americans and Inside Amy Schumer, and he opted to skip most of 2014’s blockbuster fare.
