Remember that time The New York Times dissed Viola Davis by saying that she was “less classically beautiful”? If you’ve forgotten, I don’t blame you. I’ve been trying to forget about that incredibly tone deaf article too.
Well it looks like Viola is having the last laugh.
Last year she went on The View and eloquently responded to The New York Times with a statement that basically said “heard it all before guys, try harder.” The ill-worded phase became the hashtag #LessClassicallyBeautiful that swept across Twitter and The Times was forced to give an explanation (however weak) for their less than progressive take on the success and beauty of black women.
