Earlier this week, French streaming music company Deezer announced it will be purchasing mobile competitor Muve Music, an acquisition that possibly moves Deezer into second place when it comes the number of paying subscribers here in the US. As of now, they are looking at adding up to two million new subscribers, which inches them closer to Spotify’s six million (or more) here in America.
Muve Music is the streaming music service used by customers of the mobile service Cricket, which is now owned by AT&T AT&T. Muve’s assets will soon become the property of Deezer, but that doesn’t mean that every subscriber to the phone service or even to Muve is immediately one of Deezer. The purchase simply gives Deezer access to Cricket’s two million-plus customers, and the company hopes to keep the majority of them by gifting them a pretty good deal on music.
