It was no mistake that Hanni El Khatib named his third album Moonlight: His music is primed for nighttime, and his jukebox jams sound especially great when played at a dark bar. His style is garage rock with loud, crunching guitars and big, menacing choruses. On the title track, Khatib sounds like a cross between Jack White and a woozy Nick Cave, while on “The Teeth,” he veers more toward the pulsing drums of glam rock like Gary Glitter.
