Influential Spanish screenwriter-director Pedro Almodovar will receive the Writers Guild of America, West's Jean Renoir Award for Screenwriting Achievement. The award honors an international screenwriter who works outside the U.S. and in other languages.
A native of Spain, Almodovar has proven to be a triple threat in writing, directing and producing almost two dozen films including the Oscar-winning Talk to Her (2002) and the BAFTA-nominated Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. He is currently working on his upcoming film, Silencio, which will be released through his independent production company, El Deseo, S.A., which he established with his brother, Agustin Almodovar.
