Suicide Squad Going After Joel Edgerton or Jon Bernthal for Rick Flag? — collider.com

A week ago news broke that Tom Hardy dropped out of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad and that Warner Bros. was going after Jake Gyllenhaal to replace him, but, it turns out, Gyllenhaal didn’t care much for the role of Rick Flag either so the search continues.  According to Cinema Blend, now the studio has set its sights on Joel Edgerton and Jon Bernthal. Both are quality actors, but perhaps just a little less in demand than Hardy and Gyllenhaal.  Of course we’ve got to consider their potential involvement a rumor for now, but either would make a great get if Ayer actually winds up locking one of them in.  However, between the two, I think I’d lean more towards Bernthal just because I’m eager to see more of him.  He had memorable roles in The Wolf of Wall Street and Fury, but we haven’t really see him dig into a meaty character since The Walking Dead.
