Buena Vista Social Club Lost And Found Collection Announced — stereogum.com

Feb 3rd '15 by Collin Robinson @ 2:41pm1 Comment In 1996, nearly 50 years after the closing of the Buena Vista Social Club in Havana, Cuba, a band of the same name was formed by Cuban musician Juan de Marcos González and American guitarist Ry Cooder with Cuban musicians who had performed at the original club. The big band’s self-titled album went on to win a Grammy in 1997 and become the best-selling album in the history of Cuban music. Now, almost two decades after the release of Buena Vista Social Club, UK imprint World Circuit Records announces the release of a collection of unreleased material titled Lost And Found. The collection is made up of unearthed tracks left on the cutting room floor of the band’s original 1996 sessions at Egrem Studios in Havana, as well as previously unheard tracks from later sessions in the early 2000s. Highlights on the album include Company Segundo’s “Macusa” — a classic Santiago-style song featuring Segundo and Eliades Ochoa on vocals and guitars (the same pairing heard on the original album’s most famous track, “Chan Chan”) and Eliades Ochoa solo numbers recorded after-hours during the original 1996 Egrem sessions.
