This was a bungled attempt by me to thank one special veteran and by extension our brave .... i hope they know they have my greatest respect and also now, my apology. Brian Williams, the NBC anchor, was not on a helicopter that was downed by RPG fire during the Iraq War, despite a story he has told to the contrary. Williams, who spent time covering the invasion of Iraq in 2003, has on more than one occasion — including during Friday night's broadcast — told a tale about being rescued by a soldier when his helicopter was forced to land after it was struck by a rocket.
