Pompeii, Paul W.S. Anderson's high-profile flop, was still the biggest local box office earner among Canadian films last year.
So the Germany-Canadian co-production will pick up a Golden Screen award as the top-grossing local movie at the Canadian Screen Awards on March 1 in Toronto, organizers said Wednesday. Pompeii grossed over $4 million in Canada in 2014, enabling Canadian co-producer Don Carmody to grab his ninth Golden Screen trophy for Anderson's 3D Roman disaster movie fully-financed by German partner Constantin Film and shot in Toronto.
