Looks like J.K. Rowling’s material holds up just as well on TV as it does on the big screen: The first episode of the TV adaptation of “The Casual Vacancy” averaged 6.6 million viewers for U.K. broadcaster BBC One.
It was the highest-rated 9:00 p.m. slot for the day, a BBC One rep told The Hollywood Reporter. This news bodes well for the series’ eventual premiere across the pond – HBO has partnered with the BBC to bring the three-part miniseries to the States, though an air date has not yet been set.
