It wouldn’t be unreasonable to suggest that the pant of the season may have just emerged from J.Crew’s fall collection: Wide (whatever you’re thinking, think wider) and in pale gray lightweight cashmere with a faint etch of plaid, the trousers had the room buzzing. “Super-super wide-leg pants were such a thing back in the seventies,” said J.Crew’s head of women’s design Tom Mora, noting that, when designing the collection, he kept looking through artist Peter Schlesinger’s photo book, Checkered Past. “But I wanted to alter proportions to make them modern.” He succeeded.
