The term America’s Sweetheart is bandied around quite loosely these days, but back in the 80s the title belonged heart and soul to the flame haired star of Pretty in Pink, The Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles – Molly Ringwald. Much has changed in the years since her John Hughes scripted heyday. She’s moved to France and back again, written a novel and a memoir, acted in a number of films and TV shows and, in 2013, released Except Sometimes, an album of jazz songs. But no matter what, people are still fixated on the Duckie vs Blane dilemma from Pretty in Pink. In a candid interview for AnOther Magazine S/S14, Ringwald opens up about how it feels to be a grown up teen icon. “I have changed and I am a different person than I was when I was 16 years old,” she says. “Mainly, I’m just a lot smarter. More stuff has gone into my brain. Like, duh.”
