Imagine a world where the dress chose you—that was the fantasy premise at last night’s screening of Alice Rohrwacher’s “De Djess,” the latest in Miu Miu’s series of all female-directed Women’s Tales shorts. The dress in mind? A fifties-influenced, bead-embellished ivory jewel drawn from Miuccia Prada’s John Waters–inspired, so-decadent-it’s-trashy spring 2015 collection. This piece, it turned out, was the star of the film, which was screened to a crowd including the likes of Maggie Gyllenhaal, Willem Dafoe, Virginie Mouzat, Michelle Harper, and more within the winding five stories of Sutton Place’s private River Club last night.
