The “r” in the first syllable of the word is a common omission when pronounced (probably Bobby Brown’s/Britney’s fault?) but it’s there for a reason - to be pronounced! Although many consider the “t” to be silent, both forms are considered to be correct. The incorrect addition of “r”in the second part of the word is pretty commonplace, resulting in the pronunciation of “bert” instead of “bet”. Although the word is French in origin (with the pronunciation “neesh”), “nitch” is also a widely accepted pronunciation.
