Many have dismissed the Hyperloop as a fantasy project that — at best — lies somewhere in the distant future.
But one of the groups vying to build the super-fast transit system says it has plans to build a five-mile test track in California — by 2018.
JumpStartFund's Hyperloop Transportation Technologies wants to break ground on a track next year and have it up and running just two years following initial construction. We have yet to see any kind of Hyperloop prototype, so a three-year deadline from now is an enormous claim. The company is putting up a public offering by the end of 2015, asking for $100 million.
