Yesterday it was announced that Netflix had outbid several major film studios to distribute Idris Elba’s new film. But now it seems that major US cinema chains may boycott the film, and put its Oscar chances in jeopardy.
Beasts Of No Nation stars Elba as a West African mercenary leading a group of child soldiers in an unnamed conflict. It’s from Cary Fukunaga, the guy behind True Detective, and the combined pedigree of that show, Elba, and the serious subject matter, really makes it the sort of film the producers would hope would pick up Oscar nominations.
