In 1959 -- when rock n' roll was still in its infancy -- a tragic plane crash in Iowa killed early genre pioneers Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper (real name J.P. Richardson, Jr.). The crash was attributed to pilot error at the time. Now, 56 years later, a petition is hoping to reopen that investigation. The National Transportation Safety Board confirmed to Billboard that they are currently "reviewing a petition asking us to consider reopening the investigation." That review process could take "several months," according to NTSB spokesman Terry Williams.
