Italian filmmaker Bernardo Bertolucci has canceled a scheduled visit to Mexico after he recently underwent a procedure for a coronary stent implant.
Bertolucci, who won best picture and director Oscars for The Last Emperor, said in a statement that after a routine office visit, his doctors determined that surgery was necessary.
The veteran director added that the recovery process has made it impossible to travel over the next several weeks, but he says he's doing well.
