The Michigan State Police has received authorization from the FAA to fly drones as part of their support of public safety efforts.
The MSP is one of the first departments in the country to get statewide permission to fly these unmanned aircraft systems.
The MSP purchased an Aeryon SkyRanger in September 2013, which they will use to support law enforcement missions. The MSP has been working with the FAA to meet safety and training requirements, and to develop policies and procedures for the use of the equipment.
