Yesterday, a jury in Los Angeles decided that Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams were guilty—to the tune of more than $7.3 million—of infringing the copyright held by the estate of Marvin Gaye for Gaye’s 1977 hit “Got to Give It Up” when Thicke and Williams created their 2013 smash “Blurred Lines.” (And this morning, Richard Busch, the attorney for Gaye’s family, told Rolling Stone that he and Gaye’s family are seeking to halt any further sales of the song until the two parties can come to an agreement about future revenue sharing.)
