How shall we compare thee, dear zombie? Thou art an allegory, a versatile metaphor — but to what do you refer?
The general zombie concept has Haitian origins, the term nzambi, referring to someone's "soul." But in 2015, this obsession with the living dead has peaked, as zombies have invaded not only television and film, but also comics, video games, books and academia. Historically, zombies aren't sexy — the twitching, flesh-eating, visual representations of rigor mortis are quite atrocious and frightening. So, why can't we look away? Do we love zombies for the same reasons we love watching any horror flick — for pure entertainment and the rush of feeling scared — or is there something more to this obsession?
