In The Princess and the Frog, they did a great job with Dr. Facilier instead of making the villain yet another “evil bitch.” It went the Aladdin route and made a man the Big Bad. “Almost There” was nominated for Best Original Song at the 2010 Oscars and it’s as classic as any other Disney Princess anthem. But it also comes SO early in the movie that there’s still plenty more songs to give Tiana. Put her in the spotlight and let the intended audiences know that there is a princess that looks like them on screen. Instead being surprised that audiences turn up to see films with black leads, how about we just embrace those audiences from the get-go?
