First off, let’s first clarify that Grimes, a.k.a. Claire Boucher, has always been a pop goddess — so any sort of shift in her sound in that direction wouldn’t mean she’s switching genres. Still, as we devour new, deliciously upbeat tracks like the Bleachers’ collab, “Entropy,” and her demo of “Realiti” (released a week earlier), I keep hearing the word “poppy” used to describe them — which is like calling jazz “jazzy” or rap “rappy.”
