Dear Sisters, A new year is on its way, a new journey is about to begin. Our motto “Love Comfort Work Save” will guide us again. We will leave the year 2016 marked by the effects of economic crisis, which turned out to be better than predicted. Unprecedented arrival of immigrants, earthquake of August 24, have put central Italy on its knees; tragic events, to which Red Cross Nurses “Crocerossine” have reacted with an immediate mobilization, and with competence have offered medical and psychological assistance moving to different regions of Italy.  2016 has been an efficient year. In the main challenges, difficult at first glance, there is a positive sign.  I am sure that Our Corps, fundamental tool and strong point of the National System, even more so than in the past, will be capable to respond to the needs of the most vulnerable, thanks to training and always staying up to date, contributing in a significant way to the response to requests of humanitarian assistance of the people in most difficult situations.  We will continue to comfort and help survivors of the earthquake, men, women, and children who arrive in our lands looking for a new life. We will be working by the side of the Armed Forces in every Mission that requires our presence: silent and operative. Together we will help populations in preventing diseases and will be by the side of the most frail and defenseless, providing medical and psychological assistance.  A lot has been accomplished and a lot still has to be accomplished, but the future must not scare us! It is from 1908 that we succeed in staying true to our motto; for 108 years, silent and prompt we remain on the second line however always staying up to date, like our Uniforms, which change in appearance, fabric, but remain an inspiration to ideals and adapt to new needs.  Power, will, and determination are a true secret with which we confront daily challenges and this we are doing in a spontaneous manner and always driven by great passion: we embrace the cross leaning, sometimes on it, to comfort body and soul, others still carry it on their shoulders to work towards reaching the goal which always allows us to love and save humanity in need.  Wishing that the months ahead are, for all of You, harbingers of all goodness and happiness, I send to you, dearest Sisters, my most loving hug full of gratitude.
