**# Good Tidings For Indians As The UK Plans To Introduce A Point Based Immigration System.

**
The home secretary of the UK, Priti Patel who happens to be a British Indian have launched a new point based immigration system. People coming to the UK for work must meet specific requirements for which they will be granted points and based on which visa will be granted to those having a suitable score. This will come into effect from 1st January'21 and will help brightest minds especially from India to get a swifter permanent residence permit in the UK.

There are a number of emigration routes under this new system like the skilled worker route, graduate route, global talent route, intra company transfer, startup etc. and full details of such routes can be found on GOV. UK website. The new immigration process is the same for EU and non EU citizens and will give equal opportunity to all immigrants.

Celebration time for students and professional.

For students and professionals from science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) fields under the global talent route, the point based immigration system will grant points based on skills, academics, and profession, experience, and age profiles of applicants. Such a point based immigration system is already in place in other countries like Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. A minimum of 70 points will make one eligible for the UK permanent residency.

Students will be guided to take up courses for skills, which are in demand and help make suitable career choices for them. This will in turn help students get jobs faster. It is a welcome change for students of higher education who are looking for employment opportunities. This point-based system will provide a robust and flexible process for employers to hire the skilled talent from around the world through a number of different emigration routes.

More options in new system.

Undergraduate route, international students who have completed their degree in the UK from summer 2021 can stay and work for two years at any skill level, post completion of their studies. Similarly, PhD Scholars can stay and work in the UK up to three years post completion of their study. Startup and innovator route will attract entrepreneurial minds from India to set up businesses in the UK. Startup is for those setting a new business and innovator is for those with some experience and wanting to scale up in the UK. Innovators require a minimum of £ 50,000 funding. Applicants can be both individual and teams. Another interesting route is the creative route. Under this route, applicants can stay in the UK for a period of up to 12 months on short-term engagements. Applicants must have a confirmed employment sponsored by a UK employer licensed by the home office. Health and care visa will give a fast track entry system for doctors, nurses and other Healthcare professionals. Applicants must meet relevant skill level and salary thresholds.

India is known to provide the best minds to the global workforce. This new point based immigration system, will encourage an influx of talented and skilled Indian professionals into the UK workforce and help fill the skill gap in the industries and thus boost economic growth for the UK.
