It’s been six years now since I first went skating and enjoyed Prague Castle at the same time. Yes, it’s been six years now since Prague City Municipality opened a skate rink at Letná. Actually, it’s two ice rinks – a big one for adults or skilled skaters, and a small one for small kids so that everybody can enjoy their little sports adventure.
The best thing is that you can borrow the skates there so you can decide anytime and have a bit of fun on the ice! The entrance is free, you pay just for the rental. You need some money anyway as they sell hot drinks and some basic fried snacks. You can have a rest in a heated tent – and that comes in handy when you come at the time the rink is being cleaned (that happens for about 30 minutes once in three hours, and there is always one of the rinks open anyway).
We really love going for a bit of skating in the late afternoon when the sun sets because this is the best time to enjoy the Castle outlines. The truth is that many people know this so if you’re more into skating than sunsets, plan your trip before 2 pm – there’s almost nobody there during this time.
