Give this to Lady Gaga: She knows how to make an entrance.
The pop singer, who has been sidelined since February with a hip injury, will return to the stage with a performance at the MTV Video Music Awards. The show will be broadcast from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Sunday, Aug. 25. Lady Gaga is expected to play the lead single from "ARTPOP," her upcoming third full-length.
The VMA show is an appropriate stage for the relaunch of a once-dominant pop brand that has stalled out a bit since her hip surgery. If you're not a Little Monster yourself, there's a good chance that when Gaga comes to mind, the first thing you think of is the Video Music Awards. It was there where she rocked her infamous meat dress and introduced America to her male alter-ego Jo Calderone. She's sung at the VMAs smeared in fake blood, worn crazy masks, and wrapped herself completely in red lace. MTV loves spectacle, and Lady Gaga provides it — and for her efforts over the years, they've given her 13 moon men. The awards show needs her personality and style just as much as she needs the podium.
