Queen Elizabeth II's husband Prince Philip made his first public appearance on Monday (12Aug13) since undergoing stomach surgery earlier this year (13). The Duke of Edinburgh was hospitalised in June (13) after falling ill, and he underwent exploratory surgery on his abdomen which resulted in a lengthy stay in a London medical facility. The British royal pulled out of all his scheduled public appearances and a planned holiday in Scotland with his wife, and even spent his 92nd birthday in hospital, but he has now resumed his duties by handing out medals to scientists at a ceremony in Edinburgh.
