Team Sky (UCI team code: SKY) is a British professional road bicycle racing team that competes in international road bicycle races. The creation of the team was announced on 26 February 2009 and the team began competition in January 2010. The team is managed by British Cycling performance director David Brailsford. The head Director Sportif is the British former road cyclist Sean Yates. Marcus Ljungqvist, Steven De Jongh joined the team as Directors Sportif for 2010, with former rider Nicolas Portal after his retirement from riding, and Servais Knaven joining them for 2011. Team Sky aims "To win the Tour de France within 5 years" after cutting back their initial expectations from 2010's “create the first British winner of the Tour de France, within five years”. The team is based in Manchester, with a logistics base in Belgium and an operational base in Quarrata, Italy. BSkyB provided £30 million in sponsorship for the team and will back the team as name sponsor until the end of 2013. The team also receives further sponsorship from News Corporation and Sky Italia.
