CBAF-FM is a Canadian radio station. Based in Moncton, New Brunswick, it is the flagship Première Chaîne station for Atlantic Canada.
The station was launched in 1954 on AM 1300. In 1980, the station was granted a rebroadcaster on FM 88.5, to offset AM radio reception problems in the Moncton area. The CBC operated both transmitters until 1988, when the AM transmitter was discontinued and the FM transmitter became the station's primary frequency.
CBAF-FM-5 in Halifax and CBAF-FM-15 in Charlottetown were once satellites of CBAF, but are now stations in their own right despite retaining rebroadcaster-like callsigns. CBAF-FM-5 and CBAF-FM-15 officially became separately licenced in 1987 and 1994 respectively. However, they are still essentially semi-satellites of CBAF. While the two stations originate their own morning shows and CBAF-FM-5 produces an afternoon show simulcast on CBAF-FM-15, they simulcast CBAF at all other times.
