Luigi "Gigi" Proietti (born 2 November 1940) is an Italian actor, director, dubber and singer. He was born in Rome to Romano Proietti, a man from Umbria, and Giovanna Ceci, a housewife. During his youth he was keen on singing and on playing guitar, piano, accordion and double bass in several roman night clubs. During the 1960s Proietti started a long and prolific theatrical career. He's a very popular comic actor in Italy, and he's well known for the role of Bruno "Mandrake" Fioretti in Febbre da cavallo (1976), directed by Steno. He also played Michele Bruni in Lady Liberty (1971), directed by Mario Monicelli, opposite Sophia Loren, Susan Sarandon and Danny DeVito. He took part in some international movies, like The Appointment (1969), directed by Sidney Lumet, A Wedding (1978), directed by Robert Altman, and Who Is Killing the Great Chefs of Europe? (1978), directed by Ted Kotcheff. Proietti has dubbed several famous actors including Robert De Niro, Sean Connery, Sylvester Stallone, Richard Burton, Richard Harris, Dustin Hoffman, Charlton Heston and Marlon Brando.
