Heard County is a county located in the U.S. state of Georgia. It was created on December 22, 1830. As of 2000, the population was 11,012. The 2007 Census Estimate shows a population of 11,387. The county seat is Franklin.
Heard County is included in the Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Marietta, Georgia Metropolitan Statistical Area.
According to the 2000 census, the county has a total area of 301.08 square miles (779.8 km), of which 296.03 square miles (766.7 km) (or 98.32%) is land and 5.06 square miles (13.1 km) (or 1.68%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 11,012 people, 4,043 households, and 3,040 families residing in the county. The population density was 14/km² (37/sq mi). There were 4,512 housing units at an average density of 6/km² (15/sq mi). The racial makeup of the county was 87.48% White, 10.82% Black or African American, 0.32% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 0.47% from other races, and 0.73% from two or more races. 1.05% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
