Hitchcock County is a county located in the U.S. state of Nebraska. As of 2010, the population was 2,908. Its county seat is Trenton .
In the Nebraska license plate system, Hitchcock County is represented by the prefix 67 (it had the sixty-seventh-largest number of vehicles registered in the county when the license plate system was established in 1922).
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 719 square miles (1,862.2 km), of which 710 square miles (1,838.9 km) is land and 9 square miles (23.3 km) (1.19%) is water.
Hitchcock County was formed in 1873. It was named after the US Senator Phineas Warren Hitchcock.
As of the census of 2000, there were 3,111 people, 1,287 households, and 899 families residing in the county. The population density was 4 people per square mile (2/km²). There were 1,675 housing units at an average density of 2 per square mile (1/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 98.36% White, 0.10% Black or African American, 0.29% Native American, 0.13% Asian, 0.29% from other races, and 0.84% from two or more races. 1.41% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
