The Sony Centre for the Performing Arts is a major performing arts venue in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The Sony Centre For The Performing Arts is Canada’s largest soft-seat theatre. The centre opened as the O’Keefe Centre on October 1, 1960, and has played host to a tremendous variety of international attractions and stars. The theatre, designated a historical site by the City of Toronto, underwent renovations to restore its iconic features such as the marquee canopy and York Wilson’s lobby mural “The Seven Lively Arts”. Restoration of the wood, brass and marble that were hallmarks of the original facility were undertaken, along with audience seating and flooring upgrades, new washrooms, and re-configured lobby spaces. Following two years of renovations and restorations the Sony Centre re-opened its doors on October 1, 2010, fifty years to the date of the first opening night performance. The Sony Centre is a major performing art centre in Toronto. It is a symbol of modern designing on its style in 1960. The Sony Centre is a regularly organized shape with planar surfaces. The grey concrete and the dark accent material (in this case brass), is a signature of the late 60’s and 70’s
