Walthall County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. As of 2010, the population was 15,443. Its county seat is Tylertown. The county is named after Civil War general and Mississippi Senator Edward C. Walthall.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 404 square miles (1,047 km²), of which, 404 square miles (1,046 km²) of it is land and 1 square miles (2 km²) of it (0.15%) is water. It is the smallest county in Mississippi in land area.
As of the census of 2000, there were 15,156 people, 5,571 households, and 4,111 families residing in the county. The population density was 38 people per square mile (14/km²). There were 6,418 housing units at an average density of 16 per square mile (6/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 54.61% White, 44.09% Black or African American, 0.12% Native American, 0.24% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.26% from other races, and 0.66% from two or more races. 1.33% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 5,571 households out of which 34.00% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.00% were married couples living together, 16.90% had a female householder with no husband
