Charlotte Lucy Gainsbourg (born 21 July 1971) is an Anglo-French actress and singer-songwriter. She is most known in American cinema for her roles in The Science of Sleep, I'm Not There, 21 Grams, Jane Eyre, and Antichrist. Her musical career started at the age of twelve, then waiting twenty years to release her next album, 5:55 to much commercial success and critical acclaim, followed by IRM in 2009. She is the daughter of actress Jane Birkin and singer-songwriter Serge Gainsbourg. Gainsbourg was born in London, and was raised in Paris. She attended École Active Bilingue Jeannine Manuel in Paris. Born into two famous families by her parents, Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin, she is related to many important people in popular culture. Her maternal grandmother was actress Judy Campbell and her uncle is the screenwriter Andrew Birkin, who directed her in The Cement Garden. Gainsbourg's longtime partner is the French-Israeli actor/director Yvan Attal, with whom she has two children, Ben (born on 12 June 1997) and Alice (born on 8 November 2002). In May 2011, Gainsbourg appeared at the Cannes Film Festival visibly pregnant with her third child.
